Bridging the Gap: The first sensitive 20-200 MeV Catalog
Abstract
The Fermi Large Area Telescope (Fermi-LAT) has been continuously observing the sky from 20 MeV to ~1TeV for more than 14 years. Although Fermi-LAT's sensitivity reaches down to 20 MeV, its low-energy range has been largely left under-explored due to its poor angular resolution at those energies. This program will start bridging the gap between the MeV and GeV energy bands, strongly supporting the scientific case for future all-sky MeV missions and enhancing the legacy of the Fermi mission. As we await an all-sky MeV mission such as COSI, it is now a propitious time to capitalize on the full capabilities of Fermi-LAT. We have developed a specialized analysis using 14 years of the best available LAT data (Pass-8) to construct a sensitive catalog of point sources between 20-200 MeV. This work will allow us to identify important source properties such as the SED peak, and could possibly unveil a whole new MeV source population. In this talk we will highlight the scientific potential of this project, present preliminary results of the analysis, and discuss the improvements made over its predecessor, 1FLE (Principe et al. 2018).
